Publication 10th AmendmentPublicatie Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/213
On 12 February 2018 the 10th amendment (2018/213) was published on EU 10/2011 concerning the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in varnishes and coatings intended to come into contact with food, and amending Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 as regards the use of that substance in plastic materials coming into contact with foodstuffs.
This amendment applies to both plastics (under the scope of 10/2011) and coatings.
It concerns a reduction of the current SML of bisphenol A (BPA) from 0.6 mg / kg to a new “temporary” SML of 0.05 mg / kg. In addition to the reduction of the SML, there is a ban on the use of bisphenol A (BPA) for the manufacture of drinking cups or bottles of polycarbonate, which are intended for infants and toddlers on account of their spill-resistant properties.
This Regulation shall apply from 6 September 2018.
